It is a small, family-friendly park in the heart of East Grand Rapids, a city in Kent County, about six miles south of the downtown core. In 2004, a memorial was dedicated in his honor, and it will honor Tassell, a self-made man from humble beginnings who became a successful businessman in Grand Rapids and a contented family man. He donated millions of dollars to help build educational resources in West Michigan. In particular, he helped fund the construction of health professional and engineering buildings at Grand Valley State University.
